Educational Programs in BC

Respiratory therapists in Canada graduate from a 3 or 4 year education program, depending if they want to obtain a diploma or degree. Respiratory Therapy programs are offered by community colleges and universities across Canada. In British Columbia Thompson Rivers University offers an accredited respiratory therapy program.

Following graduation from Thompson Rivers University respiratory therapy accredited program, students are eligible to write the CBRC National Certification Examination. Successful candidates earn the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the CSRT.

TRU Program Options

  1. Respiratory Therapy Diploma
    Three-year program that provides you with the knowledge and clinical skills to practice as a respiratory therapist.
  2. Dual Credential – Respiratory Therapy Diploma and Bachelor of Health Science
    Four-year program allowing students to complete both an RT Diploma and a BHSc degree.
  3. Fast-track Stream – Direct Entry Into Second Year
    Two-year diploma program for students who have a BSc (preferred).
  4. Respiratory Therapy Diploma/Master of Education Stream
    Requires acceptance into fast-track stream. Allows you to complete two separate programs simultaneously — an RT Diploma and a MEd.
