WHEN IS CHANGE DAY BC?
Change Day BC is on Thursday, October 15, 2015 (15-10-15). Pledge anytime between now and then. WHAT IS CHANGE DAY BC?
Change Day BC is building on the successful global movement ignited by the National Health Service (NHS) in England. Countries including Northern Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, India, Jordan, South Africa, USA, Saudi Arabia and Saskatchewan, Canada are holding their own change days.
We are inviting anyone involved in health and social care across the province to commit to an act of change that will improve care for patients or the system we work in. What someone pledges, and how they do it, is entirely up to them.
We invite you to make your pledge any time between now and Change Day, then join a province-wide movement by acting on that pledge for one day or every day.
WHO CAN MAKE A PLEDGE?
Anyone can make a pledge. Regardless of where you work or volunteer, whether you are a patient, resident, client, family member or someone working in the health or social care system, we invite you to join the movement to improve health and social care in our province. WHAT IS A PLEDGE?
A pledge is something that you commit to doing, changing or improving in health or social care. It’s that simple!
When you are considering your pledge, think about something that you are passionate about. What is something that you have always wanted to change, improve and/or transform?
What someone pledges, and how they do it, is entirely up to them.
Your pledge can be big or small. Pledges for change have included such things as:
• spending a day in a wheelchair to better understand the patient experience;
• tasting a pediatric medicine to appreciate why children complain about the taste;
• smiling at colleagues to brighten their day;
• learning more about diabetes to better comprehend the personal and social impacts of diabetes;
• introducing oneself by name to patients, residents or clients – a relatively little thing that can positively affect an individual’s experience of treatment and care. HOW DO I MAKE A PLEDGE?
Pledges can be made online at: changedaybc.ca or by completing and mailing in a pledge postcard. Don’t have a pledge postcard? Contact us via email@example.com or phone: 604-668-8223 and we will send you some! CAN I MAKE MORE THAN ONE PLEDGE?
By all means! There are no limits on the number or types of pledges that you can make. CAN I MAKE A GROUP PLEDGE?
Of course, enter your pledge and invite others to join you in your pledge!
For example, in the NHS, #hellomynameis was started by Dr. Kate Grainger who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her experience in care led her to start, and invite others to join, a pledge to get all providers to introduce themselves by name when they interact with patients.
Just remember, what someone pledges, and how they do it, is entirely up to them. DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 15-10-15 TO MAKE MY PLEDGE?
Absolutely not! Make your pledge anytime – the sooner, the better. Your pledge may inspire others to take action too. DO I HAVE TO DO MY PLEDGE ON 15-10-15?
We are asking people to commit to an act of change on a single day, but ultimately, what you do, when you do it and how you do it is up to you! WHY IS PLEDGE DAY SO FAR AWAY FROM LAUNCH DAY?
We want to create the space for Change Day BC to grow and gain momentum. Our goal is to reach 5000 pledges by 15-10-15. WHO’S IN CHARGE OF CHANGE DAY BC?
Change Day BC belongs to all of us. The BC Patient Safety & Quality Council, together with a growing number of partners, is facilitating a grassroots movement to engage, energize and mobilize positive action for change. BC’s health and social care system is built upon the creativity, passion and commitment of those who comprise it – patients, providers, administrators and many others who influence health in our province. Change Day is created by all of us, and is for all of us to benefit.
